Walk

Colden Valley Walk

This walk was held on 22-5-10 and will be conducted every May on a weekend with dates to be determined each year (most likely the third Saturday every May) and publicised throughout Calderdale and beyond.

The walk started at Bankfoot, Hebden Bridge and travelled up the Colden Valley along side the river and various tracks and ended at Jack Bridge and New Delight pub.

The walk leader researched the textile industry from 1300 to the present, produced short introductory sets of information for walkers on the areas historical  background, information about each mill (9 mill sites), had 22 photographs (from late 19th C to middle 20th C) as illustrations on the walk, included a variety of local oral history quotes and various aspects of natural history in relation to textile industry usage. Health and safety information was given as well as walk rating, timings, route variations, risk management and alternative walk completion methods. Bus timetables and availability of food locations were presented.

Walker donations were requested and each walker asked to fill in an evaluation.

Each year a new walk will be developed.
